The Devil in North Carolina

There are many stories about the Devil in North Carolina folklore. It seems that if the Devil doesn't live here, it's one of his favorite vacation spots. We've collected some of the best legends about ol' Satan, but we've missed any, please contact us so we can add them.

A Boaz Squires Deal

In the small town of Alliance, N.C. is the tale of a folk hero to those in the area known as Boaz Squires. Boaz was a Scottish immigrant who came to what is now Pamlico county some time before the American revolution. It wasn't long before the people of the area took a liking to the young man even though they knew he was a wizard. And through his powers, he was able to keep the Devil at bay.. for a little while at least.

The Devils Last Supper

Exactly 200 years ago to the day that this is published one of the most terrifying stories to ever take place began in the town of Wilmington, NC. It begins with a group of young rich kids taking a gag way to far, and ends with the Devil taking ownership of their souls.

Devils Foot Print

Of the most profound, unexplained mysteries of North Carolina, this one just happens to be associated with the most ghoulish character in history. Located in Warren County, just off of State Road 1131, a large stone, also known as The Devil's Rock, can be found protruding from the quiet Earth. While a rock this size (30 feet long and fifteen feet wide) is essentially quite ordinary for this area, the legend of Devil's Rock is anything but.

The Haunting Music of Roan Mountain

One of the hauntings in North Carolina that has people talking is also one of the most mysterious. On the peak known as Roan mountain between the border of North Carolina and Tennessee is a phenomena known to some as "The Ghostly Choir of Roan Mountain", others refer to it as the angels of Roan mountain and others still call it "The Devil's Choir of Roan Mountain". While they all mean the same thing for our purposes today we'll refer to it as "The Haunting Music of Roan Mountain".

The Devils Christmas Tree

This story begins in a time when the area that became North Carolina was almost unknown to white explorers. When people had to fend for themselves and make due with what they could. This is a tale of one Christmas night when a man, by mistake, found the Devils Christmas Tree and paid the price for it.
