The 2009 New Bern Ghost Walk

I first heard about the New Bern 'Ghost' Walk while doing research for this site. My immediate thought was "I HAVE to be there!" After grabbing Shecky and another friend, we traveled to the town excited to hear about the ghostly goings on in the states second oldest town. We got there on Saturday at 2pm checked into the hotel and waited for 5pm(The start of the ghost walk) like kids waiting for Santa.

Let me say I was disappointed. The 'Ghost' walk turned out to be nothing more than actors playing people from the 1920's giving an oral history of the town. The only true ghost mentioned was a lady at the Athens theater who apparently takes jewelry and moves stuff around(Even then I'm not 100% sure this was an actual tale, or just something made up for the walk).

It wasn't a bad trip, if you're into history as I am, it was quite interesting. Most of the actors we saw were quite good and my friend 'PB' really enjoyed a Pepsi from the birth place of the soft drink as well as finding the inventors grave in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, and I scored pictures of the infamous 'Weeping Arch' so I can't complain too much. I just think it could have been marketed better. Calling it a ghost walk was just not true.

After I got home I looked online and found they DO have what I was expecting.. only in July and August. Oh well, maybe next year.
