Ghost Stories and Haunted Places in North Carolina

North Carolina has a huge collection of ghost stories, haunted places and creepy goings on and this site is dedicated to finding them, documenting them and displaying them for your web surfing pleasure. So whether you're interested in the Ghost of Lydia the hitchhiker, The Haunted Hammock House or the infamous Devils Tramping Ground, you'll find them here with a lot more.

The Talking Ghost

The talking ghost is one of the lesser known hauntings of North Carolina. Even so, it makes one shiver even to this day when hearing it. The place where it happened still stands in Winston Salem. And by all accounts the inn keeper involved claimed to the day he died that what was told was indeed true.

The Brown Mountain Lights

Brown Mountain is one of the most famous mountains in NC. Located in the Pisgah National Forest in Burke County, it is not the size of the mountain that makes it famous but rather the strange things that happen there at night.

Occasionally, lights can be seen on the mountain shooting up into the air and slowly falling back down until they fade from site. Sometimes they appear so fast and in so many numbers that it's nearly impossible to count them. While sometimes they appear red or blueish in color, the most common color is brown giving them the name of The Brown Mountain Lights.

The Devils Christmas Tree

This story begins in a time when the area that became North Carolina was almost unknown to white explorers. When people had to fend for themselves and make due with what they could. This is a tale of one Christmas night when a man, by mistake, found the Devils Christmas Tree and paid the price for it.

Random thoughts

So, it's been about a month since the site launched with 10 of the creepiest ghost stories about the most haunted places North Carolina could muster. I couldn't be happier with the way things have gone. I would like to thank all of you who've written to tell me you like the site and I hope you'll keep coming back as I do update the site every Monday.

Ghost in the Theater

High Point University has a very good Theatre Arts program. One could argue that one of the reasons it's good is due to the 'improve' training they get from the ghost that lives in Memorial Auditorium. His name is Hersel.
